well honestly it depends. i use an optiplex 9010 for all of my servers, but it also needs to be that powerful because i run many servers and they are also quite resource intensive. if youre just running a web server for example, a pi should do just fine with that :) |

and also, power draw is another thing. a pi will draw significantly less power than an optiplex because it has an arm chip. |

thanks, but i only had a budget of 80 dollars, and you need a crap ton of stuff for a pi, so i went with a thinkcentre |
